New Strategic Partnership in Decision Support Systems

The Fraunhofer Institute for Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation (Fraunhofer IOSB) and CEDIM have agreed on a strategic partnership for the upcoming years. Fraunhofer IOSB’s research capacities in the area of information and knowledge management, imgage-based object identification as well as control and interaction systems and CEDIM’s focus in natural disasters (risk assessment and risk analysis, early warning, real-time damage assessment, risk management) will lead to synergies in early warning and the development of decision support systems.

The cooperation is established in two main activities:

(1) KIT and IOSB have won the ISCRAM 2013 conference. ISCRAM is the International Community on information systems for crisis response and management and stands for high quality international conferences in the field of information technologies for crisis management. The conference will be held from May 12 to 15 2013 in Baden-Baden and Karlsruhe. The conference is chaired by Professor Jürgen Beyerer, Professor of the Institute for Anthropomatics (Lehrstuhl für Interaktive Echzeitsysteme) at KIT and Managing Director of Fraunhofer IOSB. CEDIM will support the ISCRAM 2013.

(2) A joint research project on security of critical infrastructures (KRITIS) has been outlined and developed since end of the year 2010. The aim is to develop an integrated disaster management system applicable for all types of emergencies and at all levels of disaster management ranging from the local up to the federal government.
