Tasks

Dr. Tina Kunz-Plapp was the General Manager of the Center for Disaster Management and Risk Reduction Technology from March 2010 to June 2012. Since July 2012 she is continuing her activities regarding risk perception, risk communication and vulnerability at the Geophysical Institute, KIT, in the working group "Natural Hazards and Risks", and on local climate change adaptation strategies within the Helmholtz Initiative REKLIM in cooperation with the Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research at KIT. She is the contact person for KIT activities within the Helmholtz Earth System Knowledge Platform ESKP, and since June 2015 she is also working for the Climate and Environment Center at KIT.

About me

Tina Kunz-Plapp graduated (M.A.) in sociology, political sciences and cultural anthropology at the University of Marburg in 1999 with a thesis on micro finance institutions in Zimbabwe. During her doctoral studies she worked on risk perception from natural disasters within the DFG-funded interdisciplinary PhD-program “natural disasters”. She obtained her PhD at the department for economics and business engineering of the University of Karlsruhe (TH) in 2003. From 2003 to 2005 she coordinated the PhD-programme and studied risk communication and social vulnerability.
From fall 2005 to spring 2010 she worked at the German Council of Science and Humanites (Wissenschaftsrat) in Cologne. She developed and administered the evaluation procedures of the German Council of Science and Humanities for the recommendations of funding of nationally important research facilities (including large-scale facilities).
